Walcott Baptist Church...Serving our
Community since 1887!
Walcott Baptist Church was organized on the 2nd Sunday in May of 1887. Memberse of Mt. Zion Baptist Church saw a need for a church in the community of Walcott and sent members of their congregation to begin this church. the Walcott Baptist Church began as a mission of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and in 1887 became an organized church known as the Walcott Missionary Baptist church.
In 1957 a complete handwritten list of charter members was found and preserved in the home of J.W. Seay, who was a form pastor of WBC and is the grandfather of Jason Adams. The church is built on property that was donated by Rev. Seay many years ago. Some of his notes were discovered in his old home place in 1957. They were inside the fireplace in a bottle with a glass stopper, and were discovered when the fireplace was torn down. Jason Adams, the grandon of Rev. Seay, was the owner of this property. Jason, Noel Short, and Tom Dennis found the bottel containing the note when they were going to build a new house. The note was written on his personal stationary and was dated September 1909. In the note Rev. Seay shared a brief life history and interesting facts about his career as pastor along with a listen of the charter members of WBC. The note in its entirety (words are written just as they were writtin in the letter) follows and is typed as written
